New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Region Chairman, Kwame Baffoe (Abronye), has been issued GH¢50,000 bail.
Abronye's counsel, Daniel Mantey Addo, stated the legal fraternity is working to meet the requirements for him to be admitted to bail so he could be released from custody forthwith.
The original refusal to grant him bail was met with widespread condemnation by the public.
For instance, a Private attorney and former Member of Parliament for Akim Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea, said the law must be allowed to operate so there can be justice in the system.
"I think we should give Abronye the opportunity to undergo due process. Why remand the man for a misdemeanor?
"And then also someone is in America, insulting the Otumfuo and the Okyehene and they gave him VIP, a walk in this region. What kind of hypocrisy is that? It's a pitiful hypocrisy, I should say," he said in an interview with TV3's Beatrice Adu.
Yet another lawyer, Martin Kpebu, further noted that denial of bail was a poor law.
In a Facebook update, he declared, "Keeping Abronye DC in custody for one week more is not good law. This is you do me, I do you."
Similarly, another private attorney, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, said that if the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohunu, thinks Abronye defamed him, he can proceed to court, just like any citizen, and not arrest him.
Barker-Vormawor believes that the IGP is using the police for revenge.
"All that I have heard until now, is that the Government is not favoring the prosecution of Abronye, nor finds it necessary at this moment. If the IGP considers Abronye's statement defamatory, he should go to court, as any citizen."
In another entry, he protested Abronye's remand.
Barker-Vormaowr contends that the reality that Abronye remains remanded on a "common misdemeanour" is contempt of everybody's rights.
Fix The Country Movement Convener said "We should all be afraid of this constant devaluation of our constitutional rights to individual freedom. But yesterday they were too occupied clapping, when it was me. So today, you too are doing the clapping when it is them. Until the noose is around both your own necks. You, with no political support or resources. Then you will be in my inbox asking for pro bono representation.".
"Our Courts are our democracy's weakest link. They enable the politics of vengeance and irresponsibility. If we can discern that our Courts lack the backbone or independence. Dont jubilate. Pray. Pray without ceasing! Our Democracy is a death trap! Fix it."
On Friday, 12th September, the court remanded Abronye DC into police custody to appear in court on 19th September ,2025.
The Ghana Police Service, Tuesday, September 9, 2025, arraigned Abronye at the Circuit Court in Accra. He was remanded and was to reappear before the Court today, Friday, September 12, 2025.
Police arrested Abronye on September 8 over allegations of offensive conduct calculated to breach the peace.
Abronye remains in detention after the second remand. The matter will again be heard on September 19.
A while back, former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin, and NPP National Youth Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, were all in court to lend their support to Abronye.
