Sympathizers of the Kennedy Agyapong Camp have invited the former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to do more than just apologise to sympathizers over the party's loss in the 2024 Election.
According to them, this admission only leaves a big shadow on his campaign.
"By openly confessing that his camp employed dirty politics during the run-up to the 2024 Election, Bawumia has done more than asking for forgiveness — he has actually distanced his own campaign and the very persons who campaigned for him," a statement said.
They said that with those comments, Dr Bawumia, who is also a contender in the NPP race for flagbearer in the 2028 Election with Kennedy Agyapong, has openly renounced some of his best members.
"When Bawumia declares that his team went overboard by going dirty campaign, he is, in effect, dissociating himself from figures such as Abronye DC, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Chairman Wontumi, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, Ayew Afriye, and many more at the helm of his campaign.".
If at all Dr Bawumia can respect the peace and unity of the NPP as it enters 2026 and beyond, then words of apology simply will not be enough. The only genuine display of remorse would be him withdrawing from the flagbearer contest altogether. To remain in the contest after taking responsibility for his camp engaging in dirty campaigning is to shoot himself in the foot when it comes to the unity he now preaches," they opined.
They also called on the 2024 NPP Flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to step down from the race as a show of commitment to having the party heal.
"If he truly wants the NPP to heal and walk into 2028 as one unified body, then stepping down is the only honest option available to him," they further stated.
With the New Patriotic Party (NPP) getting set for its critical 2026 flagbearer election and eventually the 2028 elections, the battle between Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who have been regarded as the leaders of the contest, continues on escalating.
