Big Push Initiative: Roads Minister vouches for local contractors

The Highways and Roads Minister, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has expressed faith in the capacity of local contractors to execute all the jobs under the Big Push initiative. He stated that First Sky Group, contractors who are presently working on the 117.4 km road from Atimpoku-Asikuma-Anyrawasi-Ho-Denu-Aflao, are performance oriented and capable. Mr Agbodza, expressed sincere gratitude to the President for his initiative in spearheading the drive on the priority 'Big Push' project.
"We in the Ministry have been instructed always to put the dignity and well-being of Ghanaians first. That very principle is illustrated by this road, and indeed the entire 'Big Push' program. We anticipate that this project will be completed within the 24-month project period," he further said. The Minister outlined the government's complete system for ensuring the success of the programme on the grounds of transparency and accountability. He revealed a stringent framework with the public disclosure of the names of contractors and their beneficial owners in order to subject them to full public scrutiny. Furthermore, all the contractors will be required to carry fit-for-purpose insurance for coverage against any potential defects, in order to safeguard the public investment.
To speed up development, the Minister announced that the Ministry had also been instructed to harmonize its operations with the government's 24-hour economy agenda, so that the projects are done 24 hours a day to achieve deadlines. Mr Agbodza also charged the contractors with a dual responsibility: not only to deliver quality work within deadline but also to go out of their way to train young Ghanaian engineers by employing graduates and nurturing them to be the future drivers in the sector. "This 'Big Push' is not just infrastructure; it is capacity building, more transparency, and working hard to transform our nation for the better," the Minister insisted.
