Government to publish full list of 2,500 scholarship winners from October 1

The government has announced that more than 2,500 scholarships would be awarded this year to Ghanaian and ECOWAS students and that the full list of winners would be released from October 1, 2025.

The disclosure follows President John Dramani Mahama's announcement in April 2025 to provide 1,000 scholarships to tertiary students within the ECOWAS sub-region as Ghana's contribution towards the 50th anniversary celebration of ECOWAS.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, made this known at a press conference dubbed Government Accountability Series in Accra on Monday, September 15, 2025.

He announced that the programme has been expanded further to include additional awards for Ghanaian students, bringing the total scholarships to well over 2,500.

"Over 2,500 scholarships have been secured for Ghanaian students and our brothers and sisters in the ECOWAS sub-region this year. For the very first time, a complete list of awardees will be posted online from October 1 to promote fairness and accountability," Mr Ablakwa said.

He said the scholarships will cover areas of medicine, engineering, agriculture and technology, in realization of President Mahama's vision of connecting education to the nation's development needs.

Gone were the days when scholarships are given under cover. Any Ghanaian would be able to go online, verify who has been given and the course of study. This transparency is needed if we are going to gain the public trust," the minister added.

Mr Ablakwa clarified that the scheme also serves to consolidate ECOWAS integration by opening up space for students from across the whole of West Africa to study in Ghana, with Ghanaian students also having opportunities in the other member countries.

"It is a matter of fostering regional solidarity and a new generation of skilled Africans who can help advance our collective development," he stated.
