Kennedy Agyapong sets up anti-election rigging squad prior to NPP flagbearer race

Flagbearer contender Ken Ohene Agyapong has formed an Anti-Election Rigging Squad prior to the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) presidential primaries on 31 January 2026.

The move comes as there are increasing fears among his loyalists of electoral manipulation in the race.

Several opinion surveys have continually placed Mr Agyapong as the leading candidate in the race, one-upping each other with the primaries around the corner.

The formation of the team has been seen as a measure of protection aimed at ensuring the integrity of the process and ensuring that the will of the delegates is respected.

Over the last few weeks, a number of prophets and religious leaders have foretold a general victory for Mr Agyapong, if only the elections are conducted free and fair.

Others have cautioned that there could be efforts to manipulate the outcome, which has motivated the creation of the special response team.

Joojo Rocky Obeng, Director of Elections at Team Ken, confirmed the news in a video he posted on his social media platforms. He stated that preparations are in place to observe the election process very closely and respond promptly to any evidence of irregularity.

We are prepared in all aspects to prevent any attempt at holding these elections, manipulating them," Mr Obeng stated, insisting the team would work under the laws of the land.

The action has generated wide-ranging debate in party ranks, with several viewing it as an effort towards transparency in what is expected to be a keenly contested primary.

Mr Agyapong's supporters contend that the team is not intended to intimidate but to guarantee a free and fair process in order to sustain the credibility of the primaries as well as the larger democratic process in the NPP.
