MP for Youth and Sports Committee calls for National Honors for Rose Yeboah and 4x100m Relay Team

Akuapem South MP and member of Parliament's Youth and Sports Committee, Lawrencia Dziwornu, has called for presidential and parliamentary praise for Ghanaian athletes Rose Yeboah and the men's 4x100m relay team for their breathtaking performances at the World Athletics Championships. She
made this publicly known in a statement on Sunday.

Rose Yeboah was the first Ghanaian 20-year-old to reach the final of an individual event at the championships when she took 15th place in the Women's High Jump final on her debut.

Meanwhile, the quartet of Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah, Ibrahim Fuseini, and Rashid Saminu broke into the relay final for the first time since 2022 and came just 0.04 seconds short of a podium finish, but set a new national record of 37.79 seconds in the process.

Dziwornu praised the athletes for their determination and historic victory, urging the state to publicly recognize them just as the Black Queens were celebrated after winning the bronze at the 2025 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

"Rose Yeboah's record is historical and inspiring. Being the first Ghanaian to win an individual final at the World Championships in twenty years is deserving of national glory. Similarly, our 4x100m relay team has made Ghana proud with a new national record. I believe Parliament and Presidency should both acknowledge these athletes for bringing us national pride," she stated.

The legislator emphasized that the triumph of the athletes demonstrates that Ghana is capable of becoming a world performer if endowed and prepared accordingly.

"These sportsmen have placed the Ghanaian temperament of resilience and distinction on the international stage. Their triumph testifies that with adequate investment, talent discovery, and readiness, Ghana can achieve even greater heights," Hon. Dziwornu declared.

She also reaffirmed her support for the new Sports Fund Bill, which will bring in sustainable funding for developing talent and competing abroad.
