The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie has commissioned the governing board of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, commending President John Dramani Mahama for choosing an competent team and urging its members to serve with integrity in managing one of Ghana's most identifiable heritage sites.
With the chairpersonship of Mrs. Anne Asantewaa Sackey, the board is responsible for continuing and enhancing the legacy of Ghana's first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and positioning the park as a world heritage and tourism site.
They are made up of, Anne Asantewaa Sackey (Chair), Collins R. Nunyonameh Ph.D, Dr. Michael Mensah, Paul Parker Atitsogbui ESQ, Abraham Eghan, Bob Denis Ahiagble, Fafa Afua Adinyra, Belinda Alijata Suleman and Awudu Lah Jnr. Baguah all members
Also present were Hon. Yussif Issaka Jajah, Deputy Minister, the Chief Director, and senior officials of the Ministry.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Accra, the minister was grateful to the board members for coming forward to oversee one of Ghana's most significant national heritage institutions.
She emphasized the central role the board would have in ensuring the park's sustainability, development, and alignment with national cultural and tourism priorities.
"The destiny or not of this institution rested to a large extent on you," she stated. "You are more than equal to the task, having done so much as individuals in life."
The board was urged by Dzifa Gomashie to apply strategic leadership, ensure effective management of resources, and improve transparency, accountability, and collaboration with stakeholders.
She also proceeded to express her gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for nominating what she described as an efficient and visionary team to lead the country.
She stated that she trusted them to protect and foster the legacy of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first President and a Pan-African icon.
She underscored the importance of the park as a sacred national shrine committed to fostering and showcasing the legacy of Dr Nkrumah.
"To be entrusted with the stewardship of this legendary site is not a responsibility we take lightly. We have a mandate: to safeguard the park's legacy while developing it as a world-class destination for education, inspiration, and tourism," she added.
The Ministry's Chief Director, Joseph Kwasi Amoah, also welcomed the new board members and appreciated them for playing the critical role in ensuring the effectiveness and sustainability of the institution.
"Without a governance board, regardless of what Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park does, we cannot call it to be comprehensive," he further stated.
