2025/26 GPL Week 2 Preview: Hearts of Oak seek maiden win against Dreams in six attempts

Week two of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League offers a mouth-watering afternoon thriller when Dreams FC welcome Accra Hearts of Oak to the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex in Tema Newtown.

It's a history-laden institution of rivalry and quite some intrigue. Hearts of Oak have never won their last six games against Dreams.

For Dreams FC, the objective is clear—return. Their Kpando season debut was a letdown, a late goal sending them tumbling to a 1-0 loss by Heart of Lions. Wilfred Dormon's side dominated the game but could not find the cutting edge to convert possession into results. With their home comfort restored to them, they'll seek to make amends.

Tema has been kind to the Still Believe boys. Since that loss to Asante Kotoko on December 21, 2024, they have remained unbeaten at home, and so the ground has become something of a fortress. Helping their confidence is the fact that Dreams have never beaten Hearts of Oak. In their last six encounters, Dreams have not lost, winning crucial matches and stubborn draws—evidence that they understand how to fluster the Phobians.

For Hearts of Oak, urgency is also the theme. Their campaign began with a frustrating goalless draw at home against debutants Hohoe United. Despite dominating the ball, Mas-Ud Didi Dramani’s men struggled to unlock a compact defense, raising questions about their attacking sharpness. Against Dreams, a side known for resilience and discipline, Hearts’ forwards must rise to the challenge.

This is more than three points for either game. For Dreams, this is defending their home and proving they can make their dominance over the Phobians a regular occurrence.

For Hearts, it's about reasserting their title claims and proving they can knock out tough challengers away from Tynecastle.

With pride, history, and ambition all on the line, Monday night's encounter is sure to be explosive—and one that declares itself to be of importance by whichever side takes its chance.
