Sports Ministry launches recreation and wellness campaign in Ga-Mashie

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation will tomorrow, Monday, September 22, officially launch the National Recreation and Wellness Programme (NaRWP) at Mantse Agbonaa, Jamestown, with the theme: "Play More, Live Well – The Ga-Mashie Edition."

The initiative, coordinated by the sector minister, Kofi Iddie Adams, in partnership with the Odododiodio Constituency and its MP, Alfred Nii Kotey Ashie, will bring together residents for a morning of health, fitness, and cultural events at 6:00 a.m.

According to the Ministry, NaRWP is envisioned as a national campaign for encouraging active lifestyles, improving public health, and strengthening community cohesion through structured programmes combining recreation, wellness, rehabilitation, and physical activity in schools.

Activities lined up for Ga-Mashie activation include mass aerobics exercises and free health check-ups for all the participants. The participants will also play local games such as Oware, Ludu, Ampe, and Draft, and a "Tag of Peace" rope challenge.

There is also community football and volleyball competition, and trophies, prizes, and giveaways are in store for winners.Football kits

Organisers have extended invitations to schools, youth clubs, sports clubs, old-age groups, and health volunteers with an open invitation to a fun and participatory event. Visitors are encouraged to attend in sportswear and join in the activities.

The Ministry reports the Ga-Mashie one is merely the beginning of a broader roll-out in Ghana to implement wellness into everyday life.
