As Ghana's Black Stars gear up for their World Cup 2026 qualifying decider in October, the Europe-based stars are timely coming into their own.
The weekend had its moments in Kudus creating again, Sulemana making a mark in Italy, and Jerry Afriyie being clinical in Belgium, alongside good performances from the other regular players.
Mohammed Kudus – Tottenham Hotspur
The versatile attacking midfielder took his good Premier League form into the international break, scoring his third assist of the season in Tottenham's 2-2 thriller against Brighton. Kudus has been one of Spurs' most consistent players, bringing the vision and technical know-how that makes him an indispensable piece for club and country. His inventiveness and work rate in press situations underscore his importance to Ghana's attacking play.
Kamaldeen Sulemana – Atalanta
It was a night to savor for Sulemana as he netted his first-ever Serie A goal and added an assist as well in Atalanta's thumping 3-0 win away to Torino. The winger's pace, guile, and directness caused issues all night for the opposition, a statement-making performance in Italy. For Ghana, Sulemana's resurgence at the right time gives the Black Stars another attacking push ahead of the qualifiers.
Jerry Afriyie – La Louvière
Afriyie was the hero for Belgium, scoring a brace in the 16th and 27th minutes to secure a vital away win for La Louvière. His clinical finishing and ability to deliver when it counts for it do well to highlight a player in excellent form. Not always in the Black Stars frame, his performances are increasingly difficult to ignore.
Thomas Partey – Villarreal
The experienced midfielder played 58 minutes before he was taken off in Villarreal's 2-1 home victory over Osasuna. Although the substitution so early may fuel concerns about his readiness for the game, Partey's place in midfield for both club and country cannot be exaggerated. His leadership and ability to dictate the tempo of the game from deep make him a key player as Ghana seeks to book a World Cup ticket.
Iñaki Williams – Athletic Bilbao
The forward endured a frustrating evening as he played the entire 90 minutes in Bilbao's 2-0 away defeat to Valencia. Despite the result, Williams' non-stop running and defensive efforts were on display. His pace and directness remain vital to Ghana's counter-attacking brand of football.
Antoine Semenyo – AFC Bournemouth
Semenyo had a good defensive performance, playing the entire 90 minutes for Bournemouth in their goalless draw at home against Newcastle United. Although he did not get on the scoresheet, his pressing and hold-up play were noticeable. His presence and strength to bring other players into play make him an important prospect for Ghana's front line.
Derrick Köhn – Union Berlin
The left-back lasted almost the entire match before being substituted in injury time as Union Berlin triumphed 4-3 away in a thriller. Köhn's mix of defensive solidity and offensive danger from wide areas continues to impress. His versatility offers Ghana tactical flexibility on the wings.
Kwasi Sibo – Real Oviedo
The midfielder featured for 71 minutes in Oviedo's 1-0 away defeat to Elche. Sibo is gaining valuable experience in Spain's competitive landscape despite the loss. His possession-based play and technicality could serve Ghana well in future competitions.
