Hilda Baci completes GWR jollof rice cooking attempt despite pot collapsing on fire

Celebrity chef Hilda Baci over the weekend set her kitchen record of preparing the largest pot of jollof rice in an effort to set a new Guinness World Record (GWR). According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Baci broke the record, preparing about 200 sacks of rice in a 22,619-litre cauldron, six metres wide and six metres tall, over a time of approximately nine hours. The event, which was held at car park B of Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, and dubbed 'Gino World Jollof Festival', was arranged for fans, food vendors and artists, who came out in their numbers to honor the chef. NAN reports that after the jollof rice had been prepared, it was distributed to a gathering of more than 30,000 people in takeaway packs. People were also encouraged to come along with their coolers, as there was excess food. The Federal Government had on Friday commended Baci in her effort to break a new GWR for cooking the world's largest pot of jollof rice. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, informed that the effort was another pointer to Nigeria's greatness on the international level. The commendation was issued by Idris through Dr Olalekan Fadolapo, Director-General, Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria, at the event. Idris hoped her record-breaking attempt would inspire a new generation as well as creatives. "We encourage more young Nigerians to channel their creativity and skill into endeavors that benefit not just them but also the country and earn international recognition," he added. Nigerian celebrities and Nollywood actors, such as Funke Akindele, Bamike Olawunmi-Adenibuyan, Enioluwa Adeoluwa, and Tomike Adeoye, among others, took to thousands of fans to campaign for Baci at the event.
