President John Dramani Mahama has held bilateral talks with President Xi Jinping of China at the Great Hall of the People, Beijing, as part of his Chinese tour.
President Mahama during the meeting with ministers of state and senior government officials from the two countries expressed optimism that the bilateral and trade relationship between Ghana and China would continue to blossom during his tenure in office.
The President insisted that the relationship would bring progress to Ghana and the entire continent of Africa.
President Mahama recalled the warm relations between the two countries, tracing back to the era of Ghana's first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, and the Chinese Leader, General Mao Ji Dong, and Prime Minister Tsu Enlai, and that the relations had come to be elevated to a level of strategic partnership.
He acknowledged the significant efforts of President Xi in promoting women's causes.
President Mahama further emphasized that such initiatives should be helping in the rapid uptake of the Beijing Declaration in 1995 and the Platform for Action.
He was worried about how global multilateralism was being eroded by unilateralism by the majority of countries and to such countries who were also believers in multilateralism, it was time to show them solidarity.
The President expressed gratitude to President Xi for inviting him to the Global Leadership Meeting on Women in Beijing and for sending a high-level delegation to his inauguration on 7 January this year.
President Xi reassured
In turn, President Xi reassured his listeners of his trust in President Mahama's leadership to protect all legal investments in Ghana, asserting, "You can invest in Ghana, and all legitimate businesses will be guarded."
Along that line, the Chinese Leader declared that the 2026 China-Africa People-to-People Investment Exchange would take off in Ghana.
