Police arrest 10 for operating fake food delivery online platforms to cheat consumers

The Ghana Police Service, under the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), has apprehended ten suspects accused of creating false online food delivery platforms with the aim of cheating innocent consumers.

The initial six suspects — Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah — were picked up in a targeted operation launched on October 1, 2025, at Sogakope. The operation was the climax of intensified gathering of intelligence that led to the arrest of three men and three women believed to be behind the scam scheme.

Early investigations revealed that the suspects had created fake websites and social media pages mimicking popular fast food chains such as Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC, and Mawarko. Customers who had ordered food from the fake sites were requested to pay in advance through mobile money, then no food was provided later.

Further investigations showed that, in some cases, the suspects gained unauthorized access to the victims' bank accounts and mobile money wallets by promising to assist them with payments and then withdrew the money. Suspected electronic equipment used in the scams was seized and undergoing forensic examination.

Follow-up investigations saw the main suspect apprehended on 12th October 2025, and three others in their hideout in Haatso, Accra. The newly arrested suspects include Elijah Sotama Etse, alias Pop Smoke (syndicate leader), Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli. Twelve phones were confiscated from the suspects and are being held for forensic examination.

The ten suspects are all detained in police custody and will be in court today, Monday, October 13, 2025.

The Ghana Police Service is appealing to the general public who could have been a victim of this scam to visit the nearest police station to assist in ongoing investigations
