Dr Cadman Mills, a brother of the late President Prof John Evans Atta-Mills, has criticised the President John Dramani Mahama government for its fight against illegal mining, also popularly known as galamsey.
In a X Sunday [September 14, 2025] post, Cadman Mills observed that illegal mining [galamsey] was killing Ghanaians and must be brought to an end with the utmost haste.
They cannot use the health of Ghanaians in exchange for economic well-being enjoyed during the eight months of the Mahama administration, he added.
"ANYTHING FOR THE PRAISE PRESIDENT MAHAMA AND THE NDC ARE RECEIVING FOR THE RECOVERY OF THE CEDI AT THE COST OF MY HEALTH OR LIFE.
"Whether it is galamsey or 'legal' small-scale mining (when backed by the politically connected). It is killing us," he posted.
Along with the post, an accompanying video showed a water body whose galamsey activities have heavily contaminated it.
The individual who was filming indicated that the water body was the Ayensu River, which also provides water to a number of communities, including his.
This is the Ayensu River, this is what we all drink. This is a river that feeds many Ghanaians but because of the greed of others, look at what it has turned to," the man lamented as he sketched and poured out some of the water of the river.
