I will re-energise NPP to win — Bawumia
2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has made an offer to support reorganisation activities of the party and re-energise its electoral supports ahead of the 2028 general election.
He therefore appealed for discipline and hard work among party machinery at every level because unity of purpose would be the success factor in the future.
Targeting some of the party members during his tour of the Ashanti Region as part of his campaign, Dr Bawumia said the NPP was still a viable political force and could regain the confidence of Ghanaians if the party stayed focused on people's needs.
"Together, we can turn things around.".
The Ghanaian people still have the vision of the NPP, but it is our responsibility to show them through actions, humility, and dedication that we are ready to serve again," he stated.
2024 Loss
While conceding that various factors contributed to the loss of the party in the 2024 general election, Dr Bawumia was confident the party could bounce back stronger.
"There were indeed a number of reasons why we lost in 2024, and we must be honest to ourselves in accepting them. But despair is not today — it is a day for renewal and rebuilding," he added.
He therefore appealed to members and sympathizers of the party to stand together as they prepared to confront the future.
Fomena
During his interaction with the members of the party in Fomena, the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrews Asiamah, urged NPP members to endorse Dr Bawumia as the party's flagbearer for the 2028 election.
"He is the one whose work Ghanaians have witnessed, so let us honour him.".
Let us uplift him, and Ghanaians will honour him. I believe with his leadership, Ghana will develop immensely," Mr Asiamah said.
The Second Deputy Speaker described Dr Bawumia as "capable" and "knowledgeable," pointing out that his track record made him the natural choice for the party.
"He is the individual Ghanaians want us to bring. So all of us should help groom him. We have heard and seen so much about him, and he has all the qualities," he added.
Wealth
In his turn, a former NPP Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Kobina Tahir Hammond, chastised flag bearer aspirants who were parading their riches and monetary contributions to the party.
"If they want to make this party the rich versus the poor, then we want to let them know that we, the poor majority, are with Dr Bawumia," Mr Hammond said.
He reminded the NPP of the economic hardships they had endured in the 1990s and noted that the majority of the persons flaunting money today were not present then.
"When we were broke as to where we'd get money to build the party, where were all these people now boasting and taunting us with their money?
The party was broke before the 2000 election. Where were all these people?".
