IEA launches national debate on natural resources

The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) today launches a new series of public roundtable debates on the future of Ghana's natural resources and their potential in promoting sustainable national development.

The forum is titled: "Ghana Beyond the 17th IMF Bailout — Salvation in our natural resources?".

The series would be launched by a keynote address by the former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, a renowned scholar at the IEA.

Imperative

"Ghana is going to bring our 17th entry into the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to an end very soon.".

It is not only necessary that we need to question ourselves at this moment: Are we coming out now only to wait for the next entry? How do we avoid future entries to the IMF?

Can we exist as a nation without these perpetual pleas for budget support and exist as a nation?" an announcement made in Accra declared.

In this context, it averred that it was important to ask: What do we possess and what can we depend on?

The Industrial Revolution, the ICT and robotics-based knowledge economy, have nearly passed us by.

What do we possess to depend on?

The reply, it averred, "resounds loudly, our natural resources like gold, diamond, bauxite, manganese, lithium, oil, etc., bestowed upon us by our Creator."
