Drop Bawumia to save NPP – Dickson Adomako Kissi tells delegates

Former Anyaa Sowutuom MP and member of Bryan Acheampong's campaign team, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has told New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates to "drop" Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the party's next flagbearership election if the party wants to return to power.

Speaking to Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Tuesday, 14 October 2025, Dr. Adomako Kissi likened Dr. Bawumia to biblical figure Jonah, who had to be thrown overboard to save a sinking ship.

In response to claims that Greater Accra NPP delegates have already made up their minds to vote for Dr. Bawumia over Bryan Acheampong, he cited the Vice President's performance in the previous primaries and subsequent general election to say that the Greater Accra Region has lost confidence in him.

"I did not really intend to go there, but in the last primaries, he performed poorly in Greater Accra, and in Greater Accra, we managed only two in the presidency out of the 34," he said.

"Greater Accra is not so sensitive to him like they are being responsive to Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and that one is not me, it's the euphoria that I am tapping from behind.".

It is not about any one individual. When the moment arrived that Jonah needed to be pulled off the boat to save the boat, it happened, and it reaches the place that at some point in time, you need to pull out any Jonah who's sinking the boat," he explained.

Dr. Adomako Kissi continued to push the case that the poor performance of the NPP in the last presidential election must prompt an extreme action to replace Dr. Bawumia, just as the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) did by replacing Haruna Iddrisu with Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Minority Leader.

The party loss requires that we undertake a radical action, and it has nothing to do with individuals. Let me commend the NDC—if they had understood that they needed to remove Haruna Iddrisu in order to capture the Central Region, they removed him. Haruna Iddrisu is a colossus of an individual. The NDC moved him out of Parliament as a senior so that they could capture the Central Region," he declared.

Simultaneously, Vice President and NPP flagbearer hopeful Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will on October 15, 2025, begin a nationwide campaign tour in pursuance of his bid to be voted as the party's flagbearer.
